Great Yarmouth Row Houses and Greyfriars' Cloisters Guidebook
Merch-Misc

Overview
This guidebook presents a tour and history of two of the surviving row houses in Great Yarmouth – Row 111 House and the Old Merchant’s House – and the nearby remains of a 13th-century Franciscan friary, Greyfriars’ Cloister. The row houses, once part of Yarmouth’s crowded network of narrow lanes, were home to merchants of the port town. The guidebook explores what these houses were like in their 17th-century heyday, who lived in them, and the collections they now house from other, demolished row houses. The medieval friary is linked to the local commerce as the friars depended on donations, something Yarmouth’s flourishing herring trade afforded.
